Allegro’s RDMS 202D Achieves DLNA Certified® Accreditation as a Digital Media Server with DTCP-IP Protected Streaming

Allegro demonstrates newly certified RDMS 202D in DLNA Pavilion at CES 2011

LAS VEGAS, NV and BOXBOROUGH, MA – January 6, 2011 – Today, at CES 2011 in Las Vegas, NV, Allegro announced its RDMS 202D is among the first to be DLNA Certified® with additional support for DLNA Protected Streaming Guidelines. The RDMS 202D is a Digital Living Networking Alliance (DLNA) reference testbed Digital Media Server (DMS) that complies with the latest DLNA Networked Device Interoperability Guidelines: Expanded (Version 1.5) with additional support for Part 3: Link Protection. Recently recognized by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) as International Standard 62481-3 Edition 1.0, the Digital Transmission Content Protection over Internet Protocol (DTCP-IP) as defined in the DLNA Protected Streaming Guidelines is used to securely share premium commercial content between devices in a consumer’s home network. Specifically targeted for use by DLNA Independent Certification Vendors and Consumer Electronics (CE) manufacturers creating DLNA enabled products, the RDMS 202D is ideal for testing DLNA devices with and without DTCP-IP link protection. As a reference testbed device, the RDMS 202D is used by DLNA Independent Certification Vendors worldwide for validating DLNA enabled designs within the DLNA device model with a specific focus on link protection.

DLNA Interoperability testing with DTCP-IP Link Protection
DLNA is helping reduce the frustration of consumer electronics interoperability. A cooperative collaboration of more than 245 of the world’s leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies, DLNA has created design guidelines for a new generation of DLNA Certified products that can work together, no matter the brand. Most recently, DLNA has worked to specify a global standard for protecting content streaming between two devices, ensuring that commercial content is protected from piracy and illegitimate redistribution. “Seamless networking interoperability between consumer electronics in a multi-vendor environment is the underlying premise of DLNA” says Bob Van Andel, CEO and President of Allegro. “The addition and IEC recognition of DTCP-IP for protected streaming of commercial content builds additional credibility for the widespread acceptance of DLNA interoperability guidelines. The RDMS 202D uses Allegro’s RomPlug® DTCP-IP product specifically designed for use by OEM manufacturers creating DLNA enabled consumer electronics.” Known as a leading DLNA Technology Component supplier, Allegro has worked with consumer electronics companies worldwide to incorporate DLNA interoperability in 50+ shipping DLNA Certified products. Allegro’s RomPlug® suite of UPnP – DLNA development toolkits offer engineering teams flexible and robust tools to create state of the art UPnP and DLNA enabled consumer electronics and mobile devices. Allegro will be showing the capabilities of the RDMS 202D within the DLNA Pavilion at CES, Las Vegas Convention Center Parking Lot, space CP3.
